Ruins in Silwan, East Jerusalem
Left behind in Silwan, East Jerusalem
A neighborhood in Silwan
A view of Silwan, East Jerusalem
This side project that mainly consists of street photography from the Old City area of Jereusalem and East Jerusalem was undertaken while working in Israel and Palestine. Like many cities around the world, there is a stark contrast of old and new, modern and ancient. But Jerusalem, like few other places that I have been, feels like it is saturated with history. In Silwan, a predominantly Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem, on the outskirts of the Old City, life is hard and there is a feeling of history in the making as families are evicted and homes are demolished. In this area of the city there are frequent clashes between Palestinian locals and Israeli security forces.
